PE1.org Members’ Web Site Features
Secure membership
 | Membership is secured using asp.net 2.0 membership
API. |
 | New Members are also screen by pe1.org staff to see
if they meet pe1.org membership requirements prior to membership approval
and the ability for any member to login to the site. This prevents
non-human membership and crawlers from using the portal. |
 | A new feature is that members can update
their passwords, and reset their passwords if they forget them. An email
is automatically sent to the member with a dynamically generated password
that the user may change once they have entered the site. |
Dynamic Web Pages
 | Most tools on the pe1.org members’ portal are
dynamic. That means that they will remember users’ information from one
session to the other. The web site uses Profiles to generate this
information. A members profile is set during registration. |
 | SQL Server 2005 is used to remember all user data.
Most web tools are both personal and have the ability to be either viewed
by other members or not. That mean you can keep your information private
from others when you want. |
Browser Support
Most browsers are support on most tools in the members’
portal. Safari, IE, Opera are all supported.
Tools
Tools are helpful mini web applications that might help
you with your personal organization or as tools to help teach student
topics.
Links
 | Links can be both private and public. Public Links
can viewed by all members, as apposed to private links which are hidden
from all but you. |
 | Links enables the portal to be used as a home page
for keeping all your most used links. |
Messaging
 | The messaging tools allow the user to access other
members email addresses to send email internally through web based forms
or externally through access to email addresses from the members’
database. |
 | Support forms: A web based support form is supplied
for user convenience when a member is not located at their own computer
with outlook setup. |
 | Apply for a public pe1.org email address for use on
pe1.org through the support form its free. You can update your own email
address anytime. |
To-Do List
 | A personal to do list is provided so you can
remember what you were suppose to do both at home and at school via the
web. |
Blog
 | A Blog is a web Log or Journal that you can add
news, information, or journal entries. Blogs can be both public and
private. |
Terms
 | Physical Education Terms Dictionary is available for
members’ use. It is the same database used as the Word Wall. |
 | Add New Terms – You may add new terms and
definitions to the database and edit or delete only those terms with you
added. |
 | Search terms from a text box with auto suggest. As
you type words from the database which match your input will appear in a
drop down list for your selection. |
Diet
 | The diet tools are where you can create your own
meals, and keep a log of those meal to track caloric intake. |
Physical Activity
 | These are tools that use the Compendium of Physical
Activity to track METS and Calories for activities. |

Log
 | The log is a log/journal for aerobic physical
activity. It will help you keep track of many physical fitness parameters
that can later be used for analysis and comparison with caloric intake
from the diet log. |
Files
 | Files are both private and public. |
 | My Files contain those files that you place on the
server. They can either be private or public. |
 | Public Files are those files that all members have
deemed public. |
 | File size limitation are imposed however. |
 | The Files section is a great for those times when
you need to get files from anywhere there is web access. |
News
 | News is a public forum where you can share good news
with other users. |
BMR
 | Calculate your Basil Metabolism Rate and compare it
to your caloric input/output you have been tracking in your diet and
exercise logs. |
Timers
 | Countdown Timer – Used to track predetermine time
periods. |
 | Stop Watch – Used to track activity over time. |
 | The larger displays can be used with a smart board
or overhead to help student during testing, or predetermined activity
time. “OK students you have 20 minutes for your aerobic activity today.”
Student can continually track their progress on the screen. |
